Where to stay in Sapa

As the primary city to look for accommodations in the northwest, Sapa possesses a wealth of choices to suit a range of tastes and budgets. The main urban area offers a large number of standard hotels, hostels, and guesthouses, with views of the surrounding hills among the biggest brags in town. Some luxury options lie within the confines of the town, offering spa facilities and onsite restaurants. Out among the rice terraces lie a number of pristine resorts and the odd eco-friendly lodge or rental villa.

  • Personally I love local markets as I feel it is the heartbeat of a community, where people gather not just to buy stuff, but also to exchange gossip and news. Sapa Market had lots of that going on, an...  more »

  • Many stalls selling lots of handmade things. Very similar to what you find all over. Remember not to accept the initial price. Offer 50% and go from there. Also, the meat market in the back is not for the faint of heart. The dog paws game me nightmares...
  • Almost every shop had the same products. Sellers are not too aggressive like usually which was nice. Outside the market were street vendors selling fruits, roots for brewing alcohol and food.
  • If you're in Sapa and looking for handmade goods from the local hill people, this is the place to go. Many vendors to choose from and competitive prices. Many of the women selling are also the Crafters.
  • Delicious food. Bright colours. Toads, fishes, meat. Strange and wonderful.
  • Small shops with lots of clothing. On level two in the back you can find the villagers traditional textiles, some of them being 50 years old. Prices are good considering the time and effort it takes to make them. They can however be pushy at times which is annoying.
