Bich Dong Pagoda, Ninh Binh

(340+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Tourist Spot
Bich Dong Pagoda stands out with its unusual formation--each of the three pagodas rest on three different levels of the mountain. Climb the steep stairs, wind through the caves, and see rice fields on the way up. The path abounds with vistas of pointed green mountains, mist, and rivers. The pagodas have different designs--the low pagoda boasts five departments, while half of the middle one is carved into the mountain. A green pond encloses the top pagoda, creating a serene and picturesque ambiance. Enter the gloomy interiors displaying altars, Buddhist statues, and smelling strongly of incense. Consider bringing a flashlight to better explore the caves. Make Bich Dong Pagoda a centerpiece of your Ninh Binh vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Ninh Binh itinerary maker.

  • The pagoda is authentic and traditional. Spending here around 30 minutes is enough to walk all the way to the top to have a paronamics view of the area. In general, the recommended for tourist to come...  more »
  • This was a fun trip. It doesn't need to take much time. There is a little climbing, but it is very manageable, even for someone in bad shape.  more »
  • Not far out of Tam Coc (accessible on a bicycle) is Bich Dong Pagoda. Entry is free and there are not many visitors who come here. There are several temples each at different locations up the mountain...  more »

  • We couldn't even go to see it because we went on bikes and you aren't allowed to leave your bike anywhere for free. And of course I didn't bring money because it is suppose to be a free attraction. You can't even park down the road because the locals all charge you money. It's so frustrating. This would never happen in a 'civilized' country.
  • Unique place , old temple by the karst wall , make sure to find the staircase to upper altar, and for somebody who thinks it is expensive to park there, think again ( your loss)
  • This place was absolutely stunning! We almost left without seeing the best part, through the cave. So make sure you find the stairs up the cliff and the trail that leads you through the cave and up some more cliffs to the mini temple on the hill side. Definitely a unique place!
  • Very nice and quite area :) we really like it since it wasn't full of tourists
  • A three-tiered cave temple complex- what can be cooler than that?!?!
