Trang Tien Bridge, Hue

3.6
#56 of 139 in Things to do in Hue
Visit Trang Tien Bridge where the north and south of Hue meet. Built on the place of a bamboo bridge, the construction stands as a legacy of the architect Gustave Eiffel and the French Governor Levecque who saw a need for the city’s modernization. Finished in 1899, the concrete bridge cost over 400,000,000 dong at the time; however, the structure has to be renovated in 1906. Take a walk on 401 m (1,315 ft) and enjoy the gentle river breeze as you overlook the city landscape. • Charming little bridge. Walk across it to get to citadel. No car crossing at certain times. A good place to take pictures.
  • One of the most well known unofficial symbols of Hue. First steel bridge over Perfume river, built by the French over a century ago. This bridge was destroyed twice, first by commie-led Viet Minh forces in 1946 during the first Indochina war and then by North Viet Nam forces during Tet Offensive in 1968 during the second Indochina war
  • Hue has pedestrian streets and parks that are on the river banks. This Bridge has protected pedestrian walkway that connects the parks on either side of Huong Giang. There are runners, walkers, and Tai-Chi practitioners all using the bridge at the same time, just weave around. Using the bridges that cross the river you can create a running loop in the early morning. Also a great place to capture sunrise images. There are multiple outdoor cafes where people meet to socialize over coffee with views of the river, bridges, and river traffic. The rhythmic exhaust notes from the passing boats doesn't disturb the morning calm but add to the experience as the hot coffee wake the senses.
  • So so. It is better to understand the history of this bridge frist!
  • when the light up at the bridge, Truong Tien bridge
