Thanh Toan Bridge, Hue

Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Spanning a countryside canal, Thanh Toan Bridge serves as a fine example of a Japanese-style tile-roofed bridge. See the elaborately carved arched entrance decorated with ancient Vietnamese and Chinese calligraphy, and notice how, from a distance, the bridge resembles a traditional house. A childless wife of an important Mandarin and a native of the village, Thi Dao, built the bridge for her fellow villagers and travelers who needed rest. Look for a small altar dedicated to her memory, which the villagers laid upon emperor’s orders in 1925.
