Ba Le Well, Hoi An

3.6
#8 of 15 in Historic Sites in Hoi An
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Peek into a thousand years old shaft to discern a glittering surface of drinking water at Ba Le Well, a historic well and a World Heritage Site. Believed to have been dug in the 10th century, the water from the well was considered essential for the town’s cao lau noodles. Create your own spring rolls at a restaurant built around this ancient well in the garden of Mr. Ba Lo Le, off Kiet Gieng Lane. You will smell it before you see it: barbecued pork served up satay-style with fresh greens and herbs. Where to stay in Hoi An

While Hoi An offers a good selection of sleeping options in all price categories, only a few of them lie in the old town, probably the city's most popular tourist area. To stay near this historic neighborhood, look for hotels in the surrounding streets, especially Ba Trieu and Hai Ba Trung. If you can, look for rooms in the evening, when many budget hotels try to fill up by offering deep discounts. For the best choices and bargains, reserve as early as possible.

  • See the title of this review and set your expectations down. Given that there are many wells dotted throughout the old town, this one will not stand out as being a must-see. It is neither beautiful or...  more »
  • Great little find, no choice to be made, set menu - the food arrives before your drinks! Make sure you get ice as drinks not AUSSIE cold. Food was delicious, cheap and fun.  more »
