Ba Le Well, Hoi An
(3.5/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Peek into a thousand years old shaft to discern a glittering surface of drinking water at Ba Le Well, a historic well and a World Heritage Site. Believed to have been dug in the 10th century, the water from the well was considered essential for the town’s cao lau noodles. Create your own spring rolls at a restaurant built around this ancient well in the garden of Mr. Ba Lo Le, off Kiet Gieng Lane. You will smell it before you see it: barbecued pork served up satay-style with fresh greens and herbs. To visit Ba Le Well and get the most from your holiday in Hoi An, create itinerary details personal to you using our Hoi An trip builder.

  • Great food and plentiful portions. The staff catered for our group that included a vegetarian and one with a prawn allergy. We didn't find the staff particularly friendly though and they were quite abrupt when serving and clearing our dishes. Not as cheap as we were hoping either but maybe we need a reality check with Hoi An prices.
  • Delicious food! Always fun making your own spring rolls (pork, shrimp, different veggies, bánh xeo and a yummy dipping sauce), but the staff also helped out - rolling perfect ones for us. Ended up with an unexpected amazing pudding.
  • The culinary highlight of multiple Vietnam trips. The food is wonderful, and it's a lot of fun assembling it for oneself. Just don't fill up too much on the main part of the meal (extra grilled meat or banh xeo is available), as desserts (chocolate or mango pudding, plus fresh pineapple) are offered afterwards. It's a nice way to end such a satisfying meal.
  • The food is indeed tasty and the place is local... It became so popular that it's crowded all the time. There is one fixed menu per day for 120k and includes a dessert.
  • Unbelievable. Seriously, if you are in Hoi An you really need to go. A lot of fun and inexpensive, very authentic Vietnamese food.
