The War Remnant Museum, Ho Chi Minh City
(4.2/5 based on 17,000+ reviews on the web)
The War Remnant Museum delivers a somber account of the horrors of the Vietnam War and other wars of colonialist aggression that have plagued the Vietnamese people. The museum's exhibits may contain a heavy dose of one-sided anti-American sentiment, but they well represent residual American--and other foreign--weaponry and the destruction it wreaked. Look for the French guillotine used to execute prisoners and for the unexploded ordnance stored in a corner of the yard. • Cheap to enter, intriguing mix of materials. Little biased in my opinion and leaves out much of the soviets influence but well worth a trip. Get there at 1pm to have the museum a little quieter for a ...  more »
  • The museum is multi-story with rooms depicting various elements of the war. You need much more time then the couple hours we had to fully appreciate the visit. Outside there are aircraft and helicopte...  more »
  • A good understanding from the Vietnamese side of the war. The English translations are good and fairly accurate. A must do.

  • The best part of this museum was looking at the photographs. The articles had no substance and it's literally filled with propaganda. Now I'm not saying u.s. are saints but to say atrocities were only committed on one side paints a fairly obvious picture about state of neutrality in this museum. This was a civil war where Russia and US decided to have a proxy war.
  • If you have the slightest interest in History you should visit this place. The most interesting for me was the tour outside the main building, that described the imprisonment of people from the early days of colonial rule. The mail building is mostly pictures of war crimes and the suffering of the sivillian. Of course this is also an important part of the history, but like all the war museums I have been to, there is the good guys and the bad guys. Nothing in the middle. So I think it is a good idea to have an open mind when you go there. A must do in Saigon
  • Very interesting history! Extremely moving - found myself near tears a few times reading the stories. I can see now how this was such a hot topic during the time. Also very interesting with the parallel of speaking to some locals who were in support of the South during the time that say there's a lot of propaganda in it. Take everything with a grain of salt. As they say - the winners get to write history.
  • So much to see here. Lots of planes and tanks. The outdoor portion is a great place to take the kids. Lots of interesting things to read up on about the gruesome vietnamese war.
  • This is a truly unforgettable, if disturbing and raw, museum. Highly recommended. Excellently curated. The emphasis on global journalism and photographs from the period lends legitimacy and emotional power, even if this is ultimately a government perspective. 2-3 hours. Closed 12-1:30. Americans - don't miss this experience to fill the gaps in our education!
