Categories: Art Museums, Museums
Inspirock Rating:
3.8/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web
Examine a vast collection of Vietnamese art along with Cham, Khmer, and Indian objects at Ho Chi Minh Fine Arts Museum‎. Set inside a French colonial villa, the three-story museum features historical relics created between the 7th and 17th centuries, as well as contemporary works of art designed by prominent foreign artists and Vietnam's ethnic groups. Inspect silk, lacquer, and woodcut paintings made in Hàng Trống, Kim Hoàng, and Đông Hồ styles. Observe the paintings, sketches, and statues that focus on the nation's fight for independence and resistance against colonial rulers. The museum lacks proper maintenance, so expect insufficient lighting and air-conditioning. • Various exhibits in the different buildings. The Communist party lithographic street art is worth the visit. The politically sponsored local artists are dull. Honestly I didn't think that the content was that good. I don't understand why a museum would display 20th century ceramics which are mass produced and available in variety stores anyway. The building themselves are way more attractive, at least the museum helps to preserve them.
  • We love art and this place in Ho Chi Minh City is a good destination. Vietnamese are known to be good artists. You can find paintings even on the street of Saigon. This gallery is mostly about war history. It is recommended to all visitors. The entrance fee is very cheap, only 10,000 VND (around 50 cents). Take note that they are closed every Monday.
  • After trying to find modern art in bangkok i was quite sceptic. But i was surprised how good the exhibition was. A must visit if you're into art.
  • Worthwhile collection, well put together. Don't believe the guidebooks. There are no 'dusty old exhibits'.
  • The art is interesting if you are interested in history, but the architecture and mood of the corridors and open places was fascinating for me. Go on a hot sunny day, just look at some of the photos here :)
