Ho Chi Minh Fine Arts Museum‎, Ho Chi Minh City

3.8
Examine a vast collection of Vietnamese art along with Cham, Khmer, and Indian objects at Ho Chi Minh Fine Arts Museum‎. Set inside a French colonial villa, the three-story museum features historical relics created between the 7th and 17th centuries, as well as contemporary works of art designed by prominent foreign artists and Vietnam's ethnic groups. Inspect silk, lacquer, and woodcut paintings made in Hàng Trống, Kim Hoàng, and Đông Hồ styles. Observe the paintings, sketches, and statues that focus on the nation's fight for independence and resistance against colonial rulers. The museum lacks proper maintenance, so expect insufficient lighting and air-conditioning. The Fine Arts Museum of Ho Chi Minh City is well worth a visit. It's one that grows on you as you go around. It has a long way to go to catch up with it's equivalent in Hanoi where the climate control...  more »

I think I enjoyed this exhibit more because of the beautiful old building it is housed in. Nice surrounding gardens and easy to get to from Ben Thannh Market area.  more »

The entry price is unbelievable - less than 1 USD for 2 people. The art spans a wide range of styles, from the old masters to the French impressionists and the cubists, all be excellent Vietnamese artists who have taken the various media and expanded the vocabulary to include the range of Vietnamese emotions and cultural traditions. The emotional toll of the war years is evident, but not overwhelming, and some genuine fine art pieces are available for purchase at the gallery. They have an active children's program, and some fantastic French colonial, turn of the century architecture too. It is well worth the price of admission and is likely to meet or exceed your expectations.

The whole place could do with a face lift. But what was more interesting was the history of the building itself which they don't mention anywhere. Loved seeing kids in art class on Saturday morning in the garden in the center of the building. Otherwise, nothing to inspire. You could also purchase art work in a shop there.

More impressed by the building itself, very beautiful both inside and outside, beautiful inner yard and windows ( I was there on Saturday, during the kids painting workshop and it was great to watch the process). Will definitely go there afain, it's silent and inspiring.

Really great architecure. Unbelievably cheap entry price. The art collection are not a lot but still pleasant to look at and appreciate. Come here if not for the art, then for the preservation of the great old building.

Entrance fees is 10,000/pax only. Arts show is not bad for art lover. However, there's lack of light decorations. The place is too dim for you to enjoy the art.
