Ho Chi Minh City Museum, Ho Chi Minh City

2.8
Learn more about the city at Ho Chi Minh City Museum, a neoclassical museum with historical exhibitions and archeological artifacts. Built in 1885, the structure was originally operated as the Gia Long Palace. After taking in the building's architecture, head inside to see displays about local independence, city maps, and artwork. Below the museum lies a system of concrete bunkers where President Diem and his brother hid out in 1963. After touring inside, check out the American-built fighter jet used to bomb the presidential palace in 1975, which is exhibited in the museum's gardens. Ho Chi Minh City Museum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Ho Chi Minh City Edition.

  • There are exhibits on Vietnamese customs and history. What was very impressive was the underground passageway. You can actually pass through the hotel, and it leads from the inside to the outdoors. During the Vietnam War, the president of South Vietnam was created to hide himself from the enemy. The underground passage way with thick doors is completely different from the beautiful appearance. Apart from the entrance fee, a fee is charged for each camera.

  • One of my favourite places in ho Chi Minh city. Take your time and enjoy the exhibits and the history of the beautiful building.  more »
  • This museum is located in the heart of the city of Ho Chi Minh City. The building, like a palace in The White, is the place where the first president of the Republic of Vietnam was hiding. There are everything from archaeology to war-related things.

  • I am very fond of museums, so every time I visit another city, I always go to the museum. This place is somewhat old, rusty, crude and hot (lots of sweat!), but if you take a breath, a relaxation and a time, it is good to visit museum. Many visitors complain about hot weather. Yes, It is hot in tropical city. We should understand its climate. If you cannot, you may go to the modern building, shopping center. Anyway, it was beautiful time for me in this museum. It may takes over two or three hours to enjoy entire exhibits. Please plan to compose your schedule, your energy, your mood. Remember, the trip is always yours, not others.
  • It’s nice but I don’t think it’s worth your while if you only have few days in Saigon. Give a brief story about the city, but nothing much. seems that the gallery director is uninspired.
  • super informative and the bilingual signs make sure non-native vietnamese speakers, as well as non-viet speakers can understand what is showcased. while not incredibly big, it does go through a lot of history and has interesting bits of info. the vehicles in front are also very cool to see, even disregarding the historical significance. the building itself is also very pretty; the architecture in general is beautiful to be honest.
  • If you want to know brief history of the city then this museum is right for you. However, for tourists, you must be careful when walking in front of the museum (outside the museum). There are some coconut sellers who pass you by and try to communicate with you in English. If you response, they will start talking more and give you some suggestions. Once you ask about their coconut, he will stop walking and cut the coconut for you without your permission. Later, he will charge you with VND 150.000 per coconut! I see him walking around the museum area and try to do the same trick to every tourist passing by.
  • Don't waste your time. This museum shows the history of Ho Chi Minh City BUT. You'll need to pay an extra fee on top of your ticket, if you want to get inside with your camera. Also, many indications are in Vietnamese only, not in English nor French so it makes it impossible for tourists to read it. In general, it's just boring, don't waste your time or money there.
