#3 of 53 in Museums in Hanoi
Admire an impressive collection of war trophies at Vietnam Military History Museum, featuring the wreckage of the giant B52 Stratofortress downed during the US Christmas bombing of 1972. Spanning 12.8 ha (31.6 ac) in central Hanoi, the museum has a large open-air exhibit boasting an F-111 Aardvark, an A-1 Skyraider, an A-37 Dragonfly, and a Bell UH-1 Iroquios helicopter, as well as a Soviet MiG-21, an S-75 Dvina SAMs and a T54 tank. A huge number of artillery pieces and armored vehicles will make you understand the full scale and logistics of the notoriously modern war, which claimed more than one million lives. Artifacts on display inside the museum tell the gruesome and shocking story of wars waged on Vietnamese territory since ancient times. Indeed, lying at the heart of modern Vietnamese identity, the art of war has been detailed in great detail here. • We visited the museum a week or so after a US Navy Carrier group docked in Da Nang, after we had a coffee in Starbucks. So the rhetoric straight out of a 1980s Commusist propoganda poster which runs t...  more »
  • Vietnam has had its fair share of conflict and war. A potted history is in many guide books. The Museum is both an indoor, room by room account of what's occurred throughout the ages and also an impre...  more »
  • You can experience the history, has kept a lot of weapons that were used in the Viet Nam war and the U.S. military have crashed the plane parts. But not only the description of the Vietnamese, it is regrettable. It is at the very least I want displayed in English. When buying tickets, luggage deposit.

  • Worth a visit for just 40k vnd per person. All the exhibits close for lunch time. Interesting wartime objects all over the museum, and I like how you can get up close and even touch the tanks , aircraft and cannons. Really shows you the strength (and thickness of the armor) of these vehicles. You may also want to keep your phone handy for any fact checking you may want to do when going through the exhibits.
  • Great to explore Vietnam's history. There's a entrance fee of 40k VND ( and extras free for cameras) and need to keep your luggage in lockers. The descriptions in English could have been better. There are spelling mistakes and the info provided is not enough.
  • It gives you a good idea about the American war. Im not sure if this is a good idea for kids. Some items and photos are pretty disturbing which i guess comes with any war.
  • Must see if you like military and Vietnam War era. Many iconic military vehicles and aircraft (like UH-1 Huey, M48 Patton Tank) are laying outside and exhibition inside. Also som gift shop with good stuff is here and there is also Highland coffe near so great opportunity spend afternoon here.
  • Good muesuem which provides an overview of the different conflicts in Vietnam. There is a spot to leave your luggage at the entrance to the museum. The museum isn't that well organised and can be a little confusing to navigate. A couple of the visual exhibitions were broken when I visited and there didn't appear to be many staff to explain things. Coolest part is seeing all the old tanks and planes on display.
