Vietnam Military History Museum, Hanoi

#3 of 40 in Museums in Hanoi
Admire an impressive collection of war trophies at Vietnam Military History Museum, featuring the wreckage of the giant B52 Stratofortress downed during the US Christmas bombing of 1972. Spanning 12.8 ha (31.6 ac) in central Hanoi, the museum has a large open-air exhibit boasting an F-111 Aardvark, an A-1 Skyraider, an A-37 Dragonfly, and a Bell UH-1 Iroquios helicopter, as well as a Soviet MiG-21, an S-75 Dvina SAMs and a T54 tank. A huge number of artillery pieces and armored vehicles will make you understand the full scale and logistics of the notoriously modern war, which claimed more than one million lives. Artifacts on display inside the museum tell the gruesome and shocking story of wars waged on Vietnamese territory since ancient times. Indeed, lying at the heart of modern Vietnamese identity, the art of war has been detailed in great detail here. • Great collection of artifacts mostly from Vietnams wars against colonialism. Always appreciate seeing history from a new perspective. Worth a visit for the small entrance fee.  more »

  • Worth a visit for just 40k vnd per person. All the exhibits close for lunch time. Interesting wartime objects all over the museum, and I like how you can get up close and even touch the tanks , aircraft and cannons. Really shows you the strength (and thickness of the armor) of these vehicles. You may also want to keep your phone handy for any fact checking you may want to do when going through the exhibits.
  • Must see if you like military and Vietnam War era. Many iconic military vehicles and aircraft (like UH-1 Huey, M48 Patton Tank) are laying outside and exhibition inside. Also som gift shop with good stuff is here and there is also Highland coffe near so great opportunity spend afternoon here.
  • Amazing Museum with lots to see. It has been kept well. Best part is you can leave your luggage at the main gate, near the ticket counter. Saves your energy and keeps the museum safe. :)
  • Very basic and does not flow well but good to see the Vietnam side. Would suggest doing some Google searches for some insight as this gives more meaning to the displays. Especially the air combats. A definite patriotic bias to it.
  • It is worthy for a visit. A place for history. It is nice for someone in the first time seeing equipment in military.
