Thap Rua Tower, Hanoi

(4.1/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Standing in the middle of Sword Lake, Thap Rua Tower, or "Turtle Tower," commemorates the legend of Vietnamese warrior Le Loi. This tower was built on the Turtle Islet in 1886, but is based on an older structure, Ta Vong Temple, which was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. This attraction cannot be accessed, so you must simply admire it from afar. Go for a walk around the lake and take in views of this historic landmark, which is beautifully lit up at night. Plan your visit to Thap Rua Tower and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Hanoi holiday planner.

  • One of the most interesting and lively we have ever visited in South East Asia. Street food very good and super cheap (if you want to taste the real Vietnamese food, where to eat in makeshift eateries you find at every turn on the road). Where there is a lot of life there is much traffic (and a continuous rain of horn), so be prepared to real adventures to cross the street and take plenty of plugs for the noise. Pleasant to walk near the Lake and the Red Bridge.

  • A small Tower in the Lake. But it is nice. He is to see only from a distance, because it except water (but) no way is to come.

  • With the Turtle Tower, Hoan Kiem Lake looks European to Asians, but it is such an amazing place, where it looks Asian to Europeans:) Around the lake there are multiple cafes and restaurants for people to relax in. Very beautiful location to have a rest and think about life:)
  • nice place to walk around at night
