Create an itinerary including Temple of Literature & National University
Devoted to the Chinese ancient teacher and philosopher Confucius, Temple of Literature & National University houses the first university of Vietnam founded in the 11th century. Constructed under Ly Thanh Tong dynasty in the typical Vietnamese traditional architectural style--from wood and tiles--the temple features five historic courtyards. See the statues representing the ancient teacher and his honored disciples, the 82 stelas commemorating notable scholars, and a small collection of student and mandarin traditional uniforms. Walk the lanes planted with century-old trees and look for a tortoise head--you can see students rubbing it for good luck before taking exams. • Lovey and serene gardens. Complex is very well maintained. Headsets available in multiple languages for a self guided tour. We went early in the morning and it was very quiet.

  • This was a very interesting place to visit. So much history and culture here. It was one of our first "tastes" of Vietnam. Easy to spend a lot of time here. Definitely worth a visit! Only cost 30,000 VND per person. Good faculties too (toilets were decent plus places to buy water if needed!)
  • A very interesting and well preserved historical site. It contains many original stone carvings and inscriptions that survived many centuries and are fascinating to view close up. Walking around the gardens is very nice, the pools have a lot of fish that love to follow you around. Many of the trees look like they have grown undisturbed for many hundreds of years also. A lot of original historic architecture is present and great photo opportunities for visitors. There is enough space to move around and generally not crowded.
  • The Temple of Literature in Hanoi is a temple dedicated to Confucius. Once a centre of education for many centuries, the complex comprises many tranquil gardens, ponds and beautiful wooden buildings. I really loved this place and could be there for hours. Don’t miss it if you are in Hanoi.
  • There is an audio guide, so you can rent it for a fee. The entrance fee is 30,000 VND (1 person, adult). There are a lot of tourists and the roads around the parking lot are crowded. You can take a leisurely experience and see the beautiful architecture.
  • Its a place of both cultural and historical importance. Built in 1070, this was considered as vietnam's first national university. It has 5 courtyards each providing a unique/interesting importance in both the way its designed and what it contain. I believe this is one of the must visit places if you're in hanoi but recommend to get a guide or take an audio tour as it can help with understanding the place more.
