St Joseph Cathedral, Hanoi

3.8
Explore a Catholic spiritual haven designed in the Neo-Gothic style at St Joseph Cathedral. Built more than 120 years ago with stone slabs and bricks, the structure resembles Notre Dame in Paris and represents one of earliest structures erected by the French colonialists. As you arrive at the site, notice the two square-shaped towers, each fitted with five bells. Inside, observe arched windows fitted with stained glass, and notice how the vaulted ceiling resembles those constructed in medieval Europe. Expect limited visiting hours, especially during religious ceremonies. • St. Joseph's Cathedral is pretty, but I honestly wouldn't go out of the way to see it. Snap a few pics if you are in the area.  more »
  • The Church hosts active congregations and is the centre of Christmas decorations in town. We were lucky to see a wedding!  more »

  • This church is like two (2) city blocks long. The cathedral was constructed between 1863 and 1880. It has two bell towers, reaching a height of 58 meters (190 feet). All building materials were imported from France. The outside wall of the cathedral was built with bricks from Toulouse. Although the contractor did not use coated concrete, these bricks have retained their bright red color until today. The church is currently closed for renovations.
  • Construction began in 1886, with the architectural syle described as resembling Notre Dame de Paris. Old church but this good place.
  • Really nice looking cathedral, could do with some maintenance and a good clean to bring it back. it is a really nice area to spend some time in reflection
  • The exterior is much more impressive than the interior, but the cathedral remains an extremely popular spot (especially on the weekend) amongst locals and tourists.
  • Very old church but nice place to visit. A must place to visit in Ha Noi. If you have time, you can walk to Hồ Gươm.
