Huu Tiep Lake and the Downed B-52, Hanoi

3.6
See Huu Tiep Lake and the Downed B-52, which together create a bit odd war triumph. Small residential buildings surround the little lake where the wreckage of American aircraft emerges. In 1972, the air defence shot the aircraft, and one part of it fell in this lake. Look a bit closely around the greenish water, and you’ll notice the landing gear wheels. As the wreckage is for many years there, plants have started to grow around it. • Small narrow streets with lots of motorcycles. Some of the streets closest to the tunnels in the houses. But an exciting walk, which is certainly worth the trip. The plane itself is not the biggest event, but the journey through the small streets, it was.

  • As most reviewers have said, Huu Tiep Lake can be a challenge to find, but it's worth the effort and the trip through the busy narrow alleys to get there. The lake is not very big, but the historical ...  more »
  • The downed plane is a bit of a letdown, but if you're visiting nearby areas, you might as well visit the wreckage. When we arrived, we looked at it for a couple of minutes. Right next to the lake, the...  more »

  • It's a lake with sections of a downed US Boeing B-52 Stratofortress in it. That pretty much sums it up. It is very interesting to see though; the juxtaposition of this war remnant outside an elementary school makes you think about a conflict that ended relatively recently. Also a short walk from the B-52 Victory Museum, so worth the trip if you're already in the area.
  • Hidden spot with crashed b52 plan. Just a short stop but felt worth a wander around back streets to find (back streets themselves proved a nice walk).
  • Place where American senator Mc Can crashed his plane... some of the roads leading here are really really narrow... not even broad enough for a single car!
  • Love to have kids raised in this traddional village. They will see the historical remark everyday.
  • Simple. But excellent. Worth a trip out just to stick it to the Americans.
