  • Horrible experience! I was badly deceived by this store, and hope that my review will save other people from the same misfortune. Based on positive TripAdvisor reviews, I went in to have a trench coat made. I completed the ordering process on a Thursday morning, specifying that I needed to pick up the coat no later than 3pm the following Tuesday because of my plane flight. They agreed and took a deposit, with the coat to cost around $300 --not cheap, but less expensive than similar tailoring where I live. I came in for a fitting Monday morning as asked, and things seemed to be going well. I pointed out that they had only made one flap at the top of the trench coat; I had specified two. They said they knew I had asked for two and would fix that. In fact, on my way out one of the women ran out behind me to reconfirm I wanted two flaps. She also asked if they could have until 3:30pm on Tuesday. I agreed but reiterated that I needed to be at the airport and could leave no later. Tuesday I showed up at 3:30 with my driver ready to continue our journey to the airport as soon as I'd picked up the coat. The buttons weren't sown, the buttonholes weren't cut, and there was still only one flap. Twenty minutes, I was told. My driver agreed to wait. I wasn't happy about the delay but couldn't do much at that point-- the coat was already paid for. Thirty-five minutes later the owner emerged with the buttons on-- but no second flap. First she blamed me for its absence. Then she said the seamstress was too sick to make it properly. Then she said she didn't have enough time to finish the coat I'd ordered-- but of course she'd been happy to take my money for a coat she must have therefore known she couldn't finish, and leave me with no time to object because she knew I'd miss my flight if I delayed a second more. It was quite obvious that she wasn't going to take any responsibility for the mistakes. In the end I have a partially-finished coat with a cheap plastic lining (also not what we agreed-- the lining sample I was shown was fabric), dirt and chalk marks on the fabric, and no choice but to call my credit card company as soon as I'm home to discuss recovering my money from this deceptive business. Please go elsewhere in Hanoi and save yourself this hassle! If you're still tempted to risk it, above all DO NOT give them a single cent before you have the completely finished product in hand. I also had some clothes made at Zed's Threads up the road and they were finished impeccably and completed early (I'll be writing a review of that experience shortly). I wish I'd used them for this job too.
