Hanoi Old Citadel - Northern Gate, Hanoi

(200+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Tourist Spot
Climb to the top of Hanoi Old Citadel - Northern Gate to get a better look at buildings and gardens of the ancient imperial residence, today listed as a World Heritage Site. French colonial forces destroyed most of the ancient citadel, which dates back to the beginning of the 11th century, but you can still see plenty of memorable buildings today. Look for the “Viva la France” inscription carved on the bricks inside the gate, and keep an eye out for holes made by fire from French cannons. Visit the gate on your way to the citadel, since you won’t be able to access it once you’re inside.
