Hanoi Flag Tower, Hanoi

3.6
#6 of 39 in Museums in Hanoi
A prominent 19th-century landmark, Hanoi Flag Tower stands as the most recognizable feature of the city's World Heritage Site, the Hanoi Citadel. King Gia oversaw the building of this tower between 1805 and 1812. It is an iconic attraction because it is one of the only structures in the city that wasn't destroyed in the late 19th-century French invasion. The flag at the top of this attraction stands at 41 m (134 ft) high. When you visit the site, you can climb stairs to the top of the tower and take in views of the city. • More Thang (former Hanoi Castle) is a rich presence of ruins and dignified, and this site is far more noticeable. Museum of military history of the hotel is so great what could not say is a display of fighter jets, tanks, etc.. Objets d'art made fighter shot down in Viet Nam war is also impressive.

  • Get a closer look at the Imperial Palace, can be climbed on to keep the red flag right in front of the Hanoi flag Tower, we were able to see. Being high, climbed into the Imperial citadel in the background when taking a photo op.

  • Visited in 2011. Interesting artefacts / military hardware / war remnants. Worth climbing the (19th century?) flag tower on a clear day for a decent view of Hanoi.
  • Great war memorial. Not clear if you need to pay to get in.
  • Well worth a 1 to 2 hour visit to know more about history of Vietnam and have some great photography opportunities
  • worth checking out
  • old and ancient! One of the most beautiful historical places in Hanoi!
