Get to know how 19th-century Hanoians lived at Hanoi Ancient House, located in the city's historic old quarter. The restored house represents typical Hanoian architecture of the period: long and narrow, with a square garden connecting its two sections and a small balcony on the first floor. Note the house's typical yellow shade, and the unique design that maximizes light. Take a turn around the interior to see the well-preserved old furniture and decor. You can also buy some traditional Vietnamese decorations and souvenirs in the onsite shop. Put Hanoi Ancient House into our Hanoi trip itinerary builder and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • This house is well worth the small entrance fee to have a look around. It does not take long to look around, but after being in the city a while it was a welcome cool and calm retreat. It was a bit tr...  more »
  • Well restored, this house located in the very center of the oldest district of Hanoi gives you the way Vienamese people were living in the near past. To absolutely pay a visit  more »
  • Loved the fact it was mostly wood. It was a very peaceful place on a very busy street. You are given an explanation pamphlet.  more »

  • Charming, calming and uncluttered C19th merchant's house with sweet balconies and a pleasant central courtyard airily open to the skies. Sympathetically restored and presented, it feels more gently restrained than many other old Vietnamese old houses I've seen, with some excellent ceramics and laquerware on display -- and no pressure to buy.
  • Just an ancient tipical vietnamese house. It's nice but not much to see.
  • It's an interesting attraction, but there's not much there. That said, admission isn't exactly expensive. If you're interested in this part of Vietnamese history or simply just older architecture, it's worth a visit. I quite enjoyed it.
  • Interesting how things were set up in a house of a wealthy merchant. Best to come with a local guide to explain things to you.
  • Interesting, lovely architecture. Good to visit after the museums.
