Danang Cathedral, Da Nang

A sugar-pink structure lavishly decorated in the Gothic style, Danang Cathedral stands out as the only church in Da Nang. Constructed in 1923 by a French priest, the cathedral remains the only religious imprint left by French colonialists in the city. Approach a 70 m (229.7 ft) chocolate-box bell tower topped with a rooster weathervane, before entering a simply adorned interior of elegant arches and stained glass windows. Home to the Roman Catholic diocese in central Vietnam, the church serves over 4,000 of the local Catholic community, so get here early if you want to catch a sermon to avoid missing out on a seat. Danang Cathedral is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Da Nang Edition.

  • The pink chapel is still worth the punch, nor went into the inner part of the church to see, just outside to pat the pink coat, need to pay attention to the opening time, and there are so many visitors, want to take more pictures no one's more difficult.

  • After Han harsh a stroll, 5 minutes to reach the place. When we arrived about 5 hours later, seeing other people's comments, the church had been closed. There is a "no hospitality" sign in the doorway. If there is a chance, I would like to look inside

  • Present day religious activities since the General Cathedral tour more than happy to take you to where you want to take a look at the mass visit appears to be once. In addition, in the vicinity of a river and the market time to send if tourists coming out of the turns on the lights look pretty pictures in the evening or go to sunset appears to be good to go.

  • A beautiful cathedral in Da Nang. They have an english mass at 8:00 every Sunday.
  • Cathedral & praying open to visitors Monday to Saturday 06:00 - 17:00;Sunday 11:00 - 13:00. Public yellow bus to Hoi An just at the right Cathedral front gate (facing Cathedral) about every 20-30 minutes. No bus sign or a shed. Just wait. Fare to Hoi An is 30000 VND. Very convinent.
  • We did not get to see the interior of the cathedral. But the place is nice for a visit. There are many sculptures around and the little lambs sculptures around the cathedral makes the place looks sacred.
  • It seems like a decent church, many call it the Rooster Church, but I prefer the alliteration of Chicken Church. It is much overrated as a tourist attraction though, I see busloads of tourists go there every day but I sure wouldn't want to see it on a tour, there's nothing really unique about it, a drive by is enough.
  • Be forewarned. The place is so loaded with tour buses, the church is closed except for masses at 5 pm.

Where to stay in Da Nang

Da Nang contains surprisingly abundant hotel options, despite its relatively low-key tourism. The rainiest season lasts from September to December, while the drier spring sees more travelers; still, you generally don't need to book a room very far in advance. A broad range of hostels for backpackers on budgets clusters near the beach and on the west side of the Han River. Spectacular resorts line the oceanfront, many offering private beach access, spa packages, water sports, and diving.
