Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, Da Nang

Detailing the peculiar Hindu heritage of coastal Vietnam, Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture houses the largest collection of Cham artifacts in the world, with exquisite pieces ranging from the 2nd to 15th century CE. Featuring some 300 stone and terracotta pieces, the museum showcases masterpieces of Indic carving and architecture with elaborate ornaments rescued from Angkor Wat and My Son after a week of U.S. carpet bombing in August 1969. The 1919 French colonial building includes a large sculpture garden with highly ornate mythical creatures set in stone. Get one of the audio guides in English (you'll need to show ID), and afterwards browse souvenir replicas of altars and lingas. • This museum is a testament to the greatness of the Cham people. The Museum is a collection of statues of the gods of their trimurti (Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu). There are also statues of the Hindu God Ganesh (Ganesha) son of Shiva who is depicted with an elephant head.

  • A historical article about the Viet Nam and is where you can view the history. The Republic of Korea and Vietnam war history, being able to explore the rest of the things that bother me to have a look.

  • I am not a big fan of museum and archeological stuff, but I found this place quite interesting. With all the sculptures depicting the local history and religion, I had a good time learning more about ...  more »

  • Small museum with little information or context. Beautiful sculptures. Audio guide was neither entertaining nor engaging. Monotonous. Order and position of sculptures was hard to follow and locate along with the audio guide. Tickets were inexpensive.
  • Pretty good collection of Cham culture. Get the audio guide ($1) to get a better understanding.
  • Entrance fee of 40,000 VND. There are some interesting relics and sculptures but the quality of the curation and display is really lacking. The interior is also extremely stuffy.
  • A small but nice museum, takes about an hour to see everything, which is about all I can take in before it all starts to look the same. I would highly suggest the $1 audio guide to help learn more about what you are seeing. Located at the tail end of the dragon bridge
  • Amazing artifacts from Cham civilisation. Pay the extra dollar for audio guide. It is worth it.

Where to stay in Da Nang

Da Nang contains surprisingly abundant hotel options, despite its relatively low-key tourism. The rainiest season lasts from September to December, while the drier spring sees more travelers; still, you generally don't need to book a room very far in advance. A broad range of hostels for backpackers on budgets clusters near the beach and on the west side of the Han River. Spectacular resorts line the oceanfront, many offering private beach access, spa packages, water sports, and diving.
