Thien Vien Truc Lam, Da Lat

4.5
#2 of 9 in Historic Sites in Da Lat
Explore a peaceful compound near Tuyền Lăm Lake at Thien Vien Truc Lam, which practices the teachings of Zen Buddhism. As you approach the holy site, notice the prominent bell tower and the pagoda's tiled roofs as they contrast the surrounding pine forest. You can access the temple either directly via 61 steps, or go past the lake and climb 222 steps to the main courtyard through the triple-gated entrance. The public area located on a spacious plateau overlooks Benhuit Mountain and contains a ceremonial hall with a lotus-seated Gautama Buddha statue, flanked by guest facilities and a rose garden on the left and a bell tower on the right. The domestic area for monks and nuns remains closed to the public. Quickly create a custom-made itinerary for Da Lat using our trip planner.

  • From the very entrance, flower blossoms are scattered all around the temple. Never seen such a colorful temply! Despite some crowd, It was peaceful. The scenery is exceptionally gorgeous because is located on the hill and a lake can be viewed below. Very clean and organized, a loot of places to sit and contemplate... for hours... Motorbike ride to there is worth a try in itself too. Highly recommended!!
  • What they have done for the community is amazing. If you don't think I mean it, you should've seen this place five years ago. The building was smelly, falling apart and dangerous: the front lawn was a mess of littered garbage filled with transient homeless and passed out drug addicts. It was scary, but I'll spare you... I would not walk past it night or day- and I own a Rottweiler. Now it's proud, bright, immaculately clean, well-maintained and a joy to participate in and support.  Everyone is so generous and kind!  I feel good giving to them because I see how beautifully it ripples back thru the neighborhood. P.S. Go on Buddha's birthday (see pictures) for educational, entertaining ahem, enlightened fun!
  • This place is amazing, the view from where you taje the cable car to the temple is fantastic. The cable car ride is very long and beautiful, you see a lot of pine trees and nature and it is abaolutely beautiful. The temple itself is not the best temple ever in terms of architecture, but the atmosphere and, I dunno, the feel of the place was amazing. The various structures with a monk inside each one and the light cascading through the windows, the various fauna and the beautiful views and the parts which are restricted all amount to an amazing (and with the restricted area) mysterious experience! I have never been so keen to stay on temple property for so long and I honestly think that this was one of the best temple experiences I have ever had (which have included Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and more). In all I thoroughly recommend it, and just go slow and appreciate the sounds: the chimes, the bells, the rustling of leaves, the streaming of water...it is quite beautiful spiritual experience. Its ao photogenic!!!
  • Quiet zen temple on top of the hill overlooking Tuyen Lam lake. Closed at 5pm. A boat ride on the lake is a must-do. Boats closed at 5pm, should do boat ride at about 4pm before the sun sets to get great views of the lake and its pine trees surrounding
  • Place that you must come when visit dalat. Clean air. Quiet. Good for health
