Con Dao Musuem, Con Son

(4/5 based on 45+ reviews on the web)
Witness the harrowing past of the island exhibited in Con Dao Musuem. Opened in 2013, the museum makes a brief introduction on the history of the place before it focuses on the crimes against the humanity conducted in the prison over the captives who were comprised of political dissidents, communists, and other citizens that the local government wanted to eliminate from the eyes of the public. See the methods of torture and the hard labor captured on photographs. Learn about the cages in which the people were held like animals, and read the reports written by those who were incarcerated and survived. Not for the faint of heart. Plan your visit to Con Dao Musuem and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Con Son itinerary builder.

  • The museum is extremely well laid out and the exhibits are very informative. It is a good idea to visit the museum before going to the prison as it gives a background and context for the prison visit....  more »
  • Then, first, the photos published about this museum are, for the most part, nothing to do with the Museum, which is located at the exit of the town of con Son on the trip from the airport. Is a large modern building, opening times are not shown, but at first glance, it's open until 17: 00 (attention to the lunch break, I saw the Museum closed until 2 pm) I went twice because it is very wide, it includes a lot of information on prisons but also on the fauna of the island and its economic prospects and future projects (a lot of ceremonies (, of handshake photographed and this part of the Museum was not lighted during my visit) there are also of very beautiful plan-reliefs, these models of places found in number of Vietnamese museums. It is often the small lights of different colors to show this or that part of the island, but I found no device allowing to operate. Audiovisual terminals (Windows XP, the joke) are also out of service. But this is not important, what is interesting is all the documentation on prisons because it's still the poor relation of the visits of the various prisons in the island, set apart from the reconstitution of the lot of prisoners updated, we learn not much as some signs are in Vietnamese. The Museum is really useful to illuminate (partially different periods of this prison island) the Museum is free, is it'll be wrong to miss.
