Ban Gioc Waterfall, Cao Bang

4.6
#33 of 162 in Nature in Vietnam
Find yourself on the border between China and Vietnam enjoying the stunning view of Ban Gioc Waterfall. You will see two waterfalls 30 m (98 ft) high, that become one when the water level increases due to summer rains. Enjoy the nature and its sounds, and see some of the endemic plants that exist only in here. See the waterfall's multiple drops from the bamboo rafts that stand in its base. Consider coming outside the rainy season, since the weather can be unpredictable then. Plan your visit to Ban Gioc Waterfall and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Cao Bang tour planner.

  • One of the most beautiful places in Vietnam, the place is awesome, a must see place. The drive from Hanoi is quite long, and the road not so good, but when we arrived it was totally worth it  more »

  • This was one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Indochina and the 4th largest border waterfalls in the world. One side of the waterfalls is Vietnam and the other side is China. The waterfalls and the river also is divided between Vietnam and China. This seemed to be a popular place for Chinese tourists. You can hop on to a boat and get closer to the falls. The falls is multi level and you get a better view from a higher elevation from the China side. When I went there were hardly any tourists and you can spend an hour at the waterfalls. On Vietnam side there is also a temple closer to the waterfalls but you need to rent a bike to go up. You get good shots from the top there.
  • Very lovely area, overall. It's smaller than one may expect and, fortunately, in early March there were very few tourists, which made for a relaxing experience. Unfortunately, unlike in the Chinese side, there are no walks or substantial strolling areas available, so the main thing to do is...relax while looking at the waterfalls and letting the sound of gushing water soothe you.
  • Very photogenic and beautiful area. A little out of the way for most people but definitely worth the visit. About 2 hours from Cao Bang, the best way to visit is by bike, allowing you to stay as long as your heart desires. There is bike parking at the entrance to the waterfalls for 10'000 VND per bike. Small boat rides are available to get up close to the waterfalls for a negotiable price depending on the number of people, but know you will get wet from the spray. The other side of the river is China so you will not be able to visit there. All in all a great attraction.
  • Movies and television A number of Chinese movies of various genres have used the waterfalls for location shots, on-location sets for action sequences, and romantic backgrounds. Many popular movie stars photographs, poster artwork and personal copies of the films can be purchased from concessionaires near the waterfalls.
  • Good views and very pleasant weather. You will witness the moment when your iPhone change time zone between GMT+7 and GMT+8 here. :P
