Museo-Antiguedades La Loca Luz Caraballo pays tribute to the fascinating local legend of a mad woman who wandered aimlessly in search of her husband and children. The character features in a poem by a local writer, published in 1936. While many people have tried to corroborate the character's existence, the legend lives on as folklore and a household name. The statue depicts a woman pointing and looking out over the surrounding panoramic views of the mountain landscape, reached by a brief hike. She wears ragged clothing, and her pointed finger is said to give a nod to the misdirected route the Spaniards gave in the tale. Spanish artist Manuel de la Fuente sculpted the monument in 1967. You may encounter local children at the site, eager to recount the character's tale to tourists for some pocket change.
