  • The cult of the "Chinita" dates back to 1709, when a molendera of cocoa, a Friday, November 18, felt and saw on a Board illuminated image of the Virgin of our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá, "La Chinita". Inside, you can admire the Board with the image of the Virgin, painted in oil, 18-carat gold Crown, and a collection of religious art from the early 19th century and mid-20th century.

  • The basilica is a monument where all of the zulianos venerate the appearance of the Board, and in it the image of the Virgin chinita, our Virgin brunette. I recommend you to visit any time of the year, but if they come the November 18 they may witness the beautiful procession that takes place in all the square of the basilica, with Pipers groups live playing the dark Queen.

  • The most emblematic place together with the bridge over Lake Maracaibo. Home of the Virgin of Chiquinquirá, also known as "la chinita" Patron Saint of Zulia. On the night of November 17 gather crowds awaiting the arrival of midnight. To the rhythm of pipes as "La Grey Zuliana". Songs like "Glora to you breed Lady" and happy birthday, begins the celebration of the fair of the chinita Piper dawn night.

Where to stay in Maracaibo

Stay near the town center if you're into colonial architecture and history, but expect to pay a high price for the privilege of sleeping in a prime location. Basic motels offer a decent compromise between price and quality and draw mostly business travelers and tourists passing through Maracaibo on the way to somewhere else. If you wish to stay affordably for a few days, check into a mid-range hotel near one of the metro stations.
