Yilly HurtadoOne of my sites the CATHEDRAL of NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA ASUNCIÓN, it is one of the most important religious buildings on the island of Margarita and is located in the city centre of La Asunción, next to the Plaza Bolivar. This church began its construction around 1571 and was opened in 1621, which is part of the important buildings from the 16th century on Margarita Island, as the Fort of Santa Rosa. The Church was built in the Mudéjar style, is a beautiful example of sobriety and simplicity of colonial ecclesiastical architecture of Venezuela. The façade presents Renaissance ornaments that contrast with the colonial style of the ensemble, also is remarkable Bell Tower located on one side of the building. The Cathedral of our Lady of the assumption is the second oldest church in the country and it is dedicated to the Virgen de La Asunción. It is opposite the Plaza Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi.show original
