Gain a glimpse of Caracas' history at El Capitolio Nacional, a historic building that houses the national assembly. Built under the instruction of then-president Antonio Guzman Blanco and designed by architect Luciano Urdaneta in 1872, the neoclassical structure stands out with its gleaming white facade, Corinthian columns, and golden oval dome. Head inside to survey Martín Tovar y Tovar's painting depicting the Battle of Carabobo between the Venezuelan and Spanish armies during the War of Independence, located on the ceiling of the dome. • Caracas is a great city, in every sense. Much to see on the one hand, one huge metropolis on the other. Walk it can be tiring and at times up to dangerous, but it is worth the risk since, as well and just so, the daily movement of this city you can see. If the walk includes some typical buildings of the city, better, such as the Capitol or the Plaza Bolivar.
