An iconic Barquisimeto landmark, Catedral de Barquisimeto represents one of the most modern and unusual-looking cathedrals in Latin America. With its exterior arch in the shape of an upside-down flower, the Catholic church is considered an expression of modern art. Its construction in 1968 involved highly advanced engineering for the time; architect Jahn Bergkamp created the design, in what was his first-ever project. Enter to see the light-filled interior topped by the curved glass-and-steel roof. • It is a modern Cathedral outside the traditional colonial style that characterizes almost all the churches of the city. It is the culmination of the procession of the Divina Pastora each January 14.
