SS President Coolidge, Luganville

Dive beneath Vanuatu's blue sea to explore the old shipwreck of SS President Coolidge, a U.S. luxury liner that served as a troopship in World War II that was sunk by mines in 1942. Today, the shipwreck serves as a recreational diving site. Swim through holds and decks while meeting sea turtles, moray eels, and lion fish. Look for artifacts like guns, cannons, Jeeps, helmets, and a surreal statue called "The Lady," a porcelain figure of a lady riding a unicorn. Even novice divers can experience this attraction because of its close proximity to the surface. • Nice wreck dive and the place to visit as a scuba diver. The wreck is huge and has a lot of artefacts. It is at 20+ meters and they stay for a bit though. So make sure your dive operator is well equipped and you feel comfortable with it

Where to stay in Espiritu Santo

You'll find most of Espiritu Santo's accommodations clustered in the southeastern corner of the island, where the city of Luganville offers everything from basic beach houses and bungalows, to boutique hotels and upscale resorts. Luganville's city center boasts many hotels within walking distance of most local attractions and beaches, with quieter guesthouses an easy jaunt inland by car. Head up the eastern coast of the island to find beach lodges and sizeable resorts strung out along the shores of the Coral Sea. Due to the island's mountainous and forested interior, most areas away from the coast offer little other than family-run guesthouses and basic hotels, though these often offer budget-friendly deals.
