Riri Blue Hole, Luganville

4.6
#5 of 16 in Outdoors in Espiritu Santo
You may think photos of Riri Blue Hole are computer manipulated until you see this attraction--in reality pictures do not do this blue hole justice. Created from a spring of fresh water bubbling up through limestone, this site boasts shockingly blue water surrounded by lush jungle. Bring snorkel gear and follow fish around the hole, or jump off rope swings poised over the water. The journey to the hole involves paddling canoes upriver to the site. Remember to take water shoes for walking on the dead coral surrounding the hole. Riri Blue Hole is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Espiritu Santo Edition.

  • Stunning place that is a must see when in Santo. You'll get the best value if you tour around the main spots for a while daddy trip but if you only have half a day free then this is worth visiting as it's closest to Luganville. If you have snorkel or beach shoes better bring them with you as the rocky area can have really sharp stones that can hurt.
  • Loved this blue hole experience. They also have two swings that you can use to dive into the water. Totally worth a visit.
  • Beautiful.

Where to stay in Espiritu Santo

You'll find most of Espiritu Santo's accommodations clustered in the southeastern corner of the island, where the city of Luganville offers everything from basic beach houses and bungalows, to boutique hotels and upscale resorts. Luganville's city center boasts many hotels within walking distance of most local attractions and beaches, with quieter guesthouses an easy jaunt inland by car. Head up the eastern coast of the island to find beach lodges and sizeable resorts strung out along the shores of the Coral Sea. Due to the island's mountainous and forested interior, most areas away from the coast offer little other than family-run guesthouses and basic hotels, though these often offer budget-friendly deals.
