Chorsu Bazaar, Tashkent

#1 of 15 in Shopping in Uzbekistan
Flea Market Shopping
Indulge in spices, jewelry, handicrafts, and homemade bread, all sold under the large ornate turquoise dome of Chorsu Bazaar, a traditional covered farmers' market in the center of old Tashkent. Concentric circles of various stands offer a variety of daily necessities in this bustling bazaar. Browse leather jackets and souvenirs, sample dried fruit and nuts, and mingle with families doing their daily shopping. Historically, this has been one of the busiest markets in Central Asia, and the shopping area spills into the area surrounding the dome. You can also shop for ceramics, national costumes, and tubeteika caps. • Very large Bazaar where there is everything what the heart desires, of fruit, vegetables, salad, spices, etc souvenirs, household goods to meat that is offered in a separate dome construction. Interesting is also the part of the Bazaar where you to eat and drink can return, we would say food court!

  • The Bazaar is huge. All around the square is filled with stalls with clothes, fruit, bread, sweets, toys, gadgets... Packed with people where you can observe the daily life of Tashkent, the little rush, haggling, few foreign tourists... You must shop around and buy holvasi or halva, sweet similar to the pseudoturron of pistachio or Spanish Christmas sweets masses. Or good bread, Sesame and kalonji (black seeds) is the best for me. Or salty apricot seeds: a delicious discovery. I recommend going to the Hall of food stalls where you can eat three people for less than $12 plov, bread, salad, soup, tea, and somsa. We couldn't not finish it. We were all an attraction because few tourists eat there with the local people. And no, we didn't have any stomach problems.

  • I bought some good quality embroidered goods here (accompanied by a specialist) and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the place at the same time. There was also a travelling performing circus group the...  more »
