Nukus Museum of Art, Nukus

4.3
Discover the hidden treasure of Nukus Museum of Art, guarding an extensive and intriguing art collection in this tucked-away town. The museum was established in 1966 by Igor Savitsky, a Russian art collector and painter. He moved to the small town of Nukus and dedicated the rest of his life to amassing an exquisite collection of both traditional Karakalpak art pieces and avant-garde Russian art, banned in the Soviet Union at the time. Admire a plethora of relics, coins, carpets, and jewelry collected by Savitsky during his time in Nukus, and view the iconic "forbidden art"--a display of thousands of 20th-century Russian paintings. • To work stuck in this dusty town, filled with cafes and restaurants. A lot of things here are astonishing. Cliché of the Soviet era: a city of contrasts. The Museum came across by accident and, honestly, this is probably one of the few places in Nukus, which is worth a visit. Preljubytnejshaja avant-garde exhibition, time of formation of the Soviet Union, a number of exhibits time Khorezm, history of the Silk Road and even a few, quite decent, copies of paintings, even, in the Louvre. In General, positive impressions, with slight nostalgic touch.
