Enjoy the architectural ensemble centered around Lyab-i-Hauz, an ancient reservoir in downtown Bukhara that once supplied the city with drinking water. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, the complex features the largest madrasah in the city, a lodging house for itinerant Sufis, and another madrasah displaying two exquisite phoenixes on its pointed arch entrance. All three feature elaborately design, with typical sky blue and ocher tiles. A popular social gathering place for locals, the park around the pond features benches and cafes as well as a bronze sculpture of the medieval national sage, Nasreddin Hodja, and that of a camel caravan. Observe locals play board games by the pond, or enjoy a traditional meal under a vaulted ceiling. • LâbiHauz. the most popular place for meetings in Bukhara. You will see the channel along the road, Kukeldash madrassah Madrasah and khanaka divan-begi-it all around the House with water where ducks swim. Here, cafés, cafeterias, tourist shops and a bunch of hotels for every taste and budget. Many of them are former premises of the harem, with the saved layouts and even finish. Ask owners, they can learn a lot of interesting things. And, by the way, many hotels keep their mini-museums. Unlike public museums, there are allowed to rotate artifacts and photos with them.
