Fortaleza de Santa Teresa, Rocha

(4.8/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Fortaleza de Santa Teresa remains one of the few remaining colonial-era fortifications in South America. Erected by the Portuguese in 1762, the fort sits on a rocky outcrop in a region known for its expansive dunes and wetlands. The structure's granite walls neatly complement the surrounding scenery, and the restored interiors and grand doors create an imposing atmosphere within the pentagon-shaped compound. Offering insights into the battles once waged here and the lives of those who fought them, the onsite museum exhibits artifacts from the colonial period. • in the fortress we relive part of our history, chronology of events, models of different strengths that have occurred in our country and different materials of that time, in addition to an excellent view of the environment to the fortress, a nice ride for all ages

  • One of the most interesting sights of Uruguay. The Fort of Santa Tereza is located in an immense natural park, embraced by the sea and by a stunningly preserved nature. Nearby, there's a Zoo opened, perfect beaches for surfing, camping and lodging options inside the Park. The Fort itself is a historic monument that is worth a lot!
