Museo - Taller de Casapueblo, Punta del Este

4.5
#1 of 92 in Museums in Uruguay
Learn about the life and work of painter, sculptor, writer, and composer Carlos Páez Vilaró at Museo - Taller de Casapueblo. Housed within a former summer house and studio designed by the artist himself, the museum and art gallery display the range of Páez Vilaró's exuberant work. He found deep and abiding inspiration in the African candombe music in the tenement where it flourished, and also traveled the world, exhibiting his paintings and other visual media. The museum's architecture alone makes the trip worthwhile: the white, warped-looking structure was built using traditional methods, using wood, concrete, and stucco. You'll notice that the maze-like complex contains no straight lines inside. As well as the museum and gallery, the building also contains a four-star hotel and a cafe. • Is a full tour: Museum with exhibition of the works of the artist, sale, cafeteria and incredible view of the sea. There's even a 15 min video presentation about the artist's life. The suggestion is to start with this and after the space. You can pay in dollars, with a good cast. Has many cats in place because the artist liked cats.

  • Impressive. A giant work of art in the shape of a House. Or the other way around? I should have devoted more time to this attraction.

  • Emblematic a few miles from the tip of the East House. The ideal is to visit on your own if you go hiking in Agency give you just 50 minutes to traverse and does not reach that time, the Museum is large enough. The very expensive price 10 dollars per person.

  • Carlos was an amazing person and his museum and history are astonishing. The surroundings are beautiful too. The prices in the museum are very high.
  • Amazing experience, and don't forget to go to Punta Ballena, a great view from the sea. I do not recommend to buy things there due to the high prices
  • Must go place! It's a little messy but it's worth the visit.
  • Really beautiful place but i missed having informations of the place and sculptures in English instead of only in spanish
  • I had one of the most beautiful sunset experience of my life. Poetry reading, horneros singing and the celebration of the sun in a gorgeous white castle, constracted by the love and work of one amazing human being Carlos Páez Vilaró...you can hardly beat that:)
