Museo - Taller de Casapueblo, Punta del Este

4.5
#1 of 64 in Museums in Uruguay
Learn about the life and work of painter, sculptor, writer, and composer Carlos Páez Vilaró at Museo - Taller de Casapueblo. Housed within a former summer house and studio designed by the artist himself, the museum and art gallery display the range of Páez Vilaró's exuberant work. He found deep and abiding inspiration in the African candombe music in the tenement where it flourished, and also traveled the world, exhibiting his paintings and other visual media. The museum's architecture alone makes the trip worthwhile: the white, warped-looking structure was built using traditional methods, using wood, concrete, and stucco. You'll notice that the maze-like complex contains no straight lines inside. As well as the museum and gallery, the building also contains a four-star hotel and a cafe. The Taller de Casapueblo Museum, was constructed and architected by the plastic artist Carlos Vilaro, Uruguay, and Punta Ballena. Features besides the Museum you can visit paying about 30 reais, a Hotel of which you cannot visit, unless you are staying in it. Is the sunset Uruguay's most famous, which is really beautiful and the coffee with some options that exist inside is quite expensive. The works are curious and environments as well. Yields good pictures, but it's something to visit once to kill the curiosity and then just enjoy the sunset.

The place for you so it's worth the visit. Architecture and art mingle in this masterpiece of Uruguayan artist Vilaró. The visit to the Museum and a must as well as a cafe overlooking the sunset in rio de la Plata.

We went to visit the site with the intention of having lunch there. Upon arriving in the hotel and restaurant are closed. Only the Museum was open. Pay (right) expensive to enter and that disappointment ... ... ... full of tracks from "forbidden pass by here." That is, we were pretty limited inside the Museum. The only thing that was worth it (trying to be optimistic) was the view. Gorgeous by the way ... I recommend (if you do not want to pay to be disappointed like us) that if you are going there only by sight, stay on the lookout that has next. The sunset of this location is more than amazing. One of the most beautiful I've ever seen in my life!!

The place and the works are beautiful. However, the signs to reach the site is terrible. In the coffee that has the Museum served a portion of chips extremely salty, the Cappuccino was bad and very expensive.

Place with very interesting history (see the history of Vilaró). Architecture unlike anything seen before. Advisable to drive, because there is no public transport nearby.

Beautiful Museum. Input face Uruguayan 250. And despite being in renovation. A penalty to not know the hotel!

Fantastic place, the whole House is a work of art. Has a wonderful Cafe on the second floor with delicious options. The sunset is unforgettable and romantic and the entry price is low.
