Landmark Tourist Spot
Many people interpret Los Dedos de Punta del Este as either a hand of a zombie god come to take his vengeance on a sinful Earth, or the grasping fingers of a buried giant. In fact, neither assumption is correct. Created by Chilean artist Mario Irrazabal in 1982, the beach sculpture has since become an iconic attraction in Punta del Este. Take an artistic photo of the sculpture and imagine all the mythical creatures it might represent. Put Los Dedos de Punta del Este into our Punta del Este vacation trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Where to stay in Punta del Este

A major vacation destination, Punta del Este boasts a wide range of accommodation options, though most establishments remain relatively expensive even during the off-season. Summer marks the peak of tourism (December to March), and during that time even mid-range hotels charge top rates. Visitors with deeper pockets can choose from a number of three- and four-star hotels within walking distance of good beaches. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider one of the hostels scattered throughout Punta del Este's residential neighborhoods.

  • Looks much better on the pictures then it is in real life. Although it is a must visit spot if you are visiting punta del Este.  more »
  • The monument is a must-see as it is interesting and a tourist spot as well. But that is it and period. If you can go early it is much better as you will be able to see it without the crowd of people a...  more »
  • The giant hand coming from the sand is one of the top three attractions in Punto del Este but not worth the visit alone. The 'hand' is conveniently directly opposite the local bus terminal, so easy to...  more »

  • A nice sequel to seeing Mano del Desierto in the Atacama Desert, Chile. Something unique to see in this touristic hub.
  • Unique piece of art, the only problem is that you have to be patient to be able to take a picture without people on it.
  • It's unique and if you're going to come to Uruguay & Punta del Este then you simply have to come see this.
  • This is the heart of punta del este with iconic "Manos" or the hand sculpture at beach. Very posh location
  • Impressive Sculpture of a Hand emerging from the Sand. It is actually a Right Hand. The sculptor created a Left hand in Chile, so both hands together are said to be holding South America between them.
