Iglesia Candelaria, Punta del Este

#1 of 6 in Historic Sites in Maldonado Department
Church Tourist Spot
Visit a church in one of the older sections of the city at Iglesia Candelaria. This small blue church features warm, bright colors that match the church’s welcoming atmosphere. A simple bell tower rises from the church's roof. Head inside to view a humble church interior with simple paintings and statues decorating the walls. Catholic travelers can stop by for mass, though the church fills up fast, so make plans to arrive early. Where to stay in Punta del Este

A major vacation destination, Punta del Este boasts a wide range of accommodation options, though most establishments remain relatively expensive even during the off-season. Summer marks the peak of tourism (December to March), and during that time even mid-range hotels charge top rates. Visitors with deeper pockets can choose from a number of three- and four-star hotels within walking distance of good beaches. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider one of the hostels scattered throughout Punta del Este's residential neighborhoods.
