Museo – Taller de Casapueblo, Punta Ballena

#1 of 96 in Museums in Uruguay
Learn about the life and work of painter, sculptor, writer, and composer Carlos Páez Vilaró at Museo – Taller de Casapueblo. Housed within a former summer house and studio designed by the artist himself, the museum and art gallery display the range of Páez Vilaró's exuberant work. He found deep and abiding inspiration in the African candombe music in the tenement where it flourished, and also traveled the world, exhibiting his paintings and other visual media. The museum's architecture alone makes the trip worthwhile: the white, warped-looking structure was built using traditional methods, using wood, concrete, and stucco. You'll notice that the maze-like complex contains no straight lines inside. As well as the museum and gallery, the building also contains a four-star hotel and a cafe. • I've heard about it for a long time, and it feels like a seaside version of Mira House! Very beautiful, like his works, summer should be more beautiful!

  • If you go to the east end it is worth sparking at home village, a hotel-museum of Carlos Páez. It is with entrance (shopping there and under 12 do not pay) short visit, an amazing view, spectacular architecture. You can meet, read and buy works by Páez. Nice experience

  • Admission costs $8 per person and barely lets you access a small part of the house. I recommend you look at it from the outside, don't throw your money in the trash.

  • Iconic spot, so it's a must see in the area. The museum part is small but gives a good overview of the artist. Watch the documentary. There are chairs in the theatre, but people tend to crowd by the doorway. So peek in to see how full it really is.
  • Really interesting building with an amazing location to see the sunset. I think the museum could be improved with some more paintings but the whole thing is absolutely stunning and worth seeing.
  • A location filled with incredible energy. The art is amazing and to step inside the museum /workshop of one of the countries most well know creative people is very humbling.
  • Beach near this place is very good
  • Carlos was an amazing person and his museum and history are astonishing. The surroundings are beautiful too. The prices in the museum are very high.
