Pittamiglio"s Castle, Montevideo

Castle Tourist Spot
Admire an impressive Modernist landmark, cultural center, and museum at Pittamiglio"s Castle, home of architect Humberto Pittamiglio from 1910 until his death in 1966. The building's design was an ongoing process intentionally left unfinished when Pittamiglio died. Consider the symbolism of the curious sculptures curling around the main building, and take a tour of the interior to see oddly shaped rooms, doors that lead to nothing, and interesting color and material choices. The life of the architect remains the source of much mystery, and the museum addresses several rumors that surround the man and his work. Where to stay in Montevideo

Montevideo's central neighborhoods offer plenty of hostels for budget-minded travelers, as well as a good selection of mid-range hotels for visitors looking for a bit more space and privacy. Luxury rooms are harder to come by, especially if you arrive without a reservation. If you want to indulge your every desire, your best bet is the waterfront area, where you can find four- and five-star hotels offering all the modern amenities you need, including complimentary bicycles and car rental services.

  • Beautiful museum, not to miss when in Montevideo! Watch out for the hours of the guided visits.
  • Amazing place full of symbols and diagrams. Short guided tours after 17:00 are very recommended.
  • A lovely front which contrasts greatly with the surrounding buildings.
  • Very interesting to visit and to understand the history and concepts behind this building.
  • You can visit it with your kids and take the tour to know about the architect and the building. Takes around 30 mins. That´s all. Many hidden diagrams and references to Mason´s people.
