Montevideo Botanical Garden, Montevideo

#4 of 12 in Parks in Montevideo
Garden Nature / Park
Examine a collection of Uruguayan plant life at Montevideo Botanical Garden, about 30 minutes by bus from the center of Montevideo. Despite a lack of quality maintenance, the shabby gardens still warrant a visit if you want to get a taste for typical Uruguayan vegetation. Drop by the museum at the gardens' entrance at Avenue 19 April, which contains plenty of information about plant physiology and an impressive botanical library. Bring a picnic and join the locals for a relaxed afternoon on the gardens' grassy fields. To visit Montevideo Botanical Garden on your trip to Montevideo, use our Montevideo vacation route planner.

Where to stay in Montevideo

Montevideo's central neighborhoods offer plenty of hostels for budget-minded travelers, as well as a good selection of mid-range hotels for visitors looking for a bit more space and privacy. Luxury rooms are harder to come by, especially if you arrive without a reservation. If you want to indulge your every desire, your best bet is the waterfront area, where you can find four- and five-star hotels offering all the modern amenities you need, including complimentary bicycles and car rental services.

  • Very nice place but the plants and trees has to be more care. Is a beautiful place for visit, walking, rest or for picnics too. Gardens are very nice, but you have to bring your own food and drink, only are there some snacks like churros and sweet peanuts, drinking water are there in different points of garden, very advisable place to visit in the first big barrio in Montevideo, El Prado.
  • Montevideo Botanical Garden is not far away from the city centre. There are many visitors at the weekends. Some of them have families picnics. There are a lot of people doing sports activities.
  • Beautiful place, super natural and very clean. Perfect for children. Very good for birdwatching and relaxing.
