Where to stay in Montevideo

Montevideo's central neighborhoods offer plenty of hostels for budget-minded travelers, as well as a good selection of mid-range hotels for visitors looking for a bit more space and privacy. Luxury rooms are harder to come by, especially if you arrive without a reservation. If you want to indulge your every desire, your best bet is the waterfront area, where you can find four- and five-star hotels offering all the modern amenities you need, including complimentary bicycles and car rental services.

  • Imagine a prison that now it is space for celebrating beauty and promoting art. Great exhibits and very friendly and helpful staff. In my next trip to Montevideo I will visit again.  more »

  • Seeing how the space has been transformed from a prison to a modern art museum alone is worth the visit. Downstairs, you can walk into what used to be cells and see work from a different artist. Overall the art was interesting and culturally relevant. Plus, it's FREE. Just go! It's neat!
  • It uses to be a prision, so the builing is pretty cool on its own. To top it off, they turned it into an contemporary art gallery. Worth the visit!
  • Excellent cultural place. Will be good if the extensions will be opened soon. We will think to make an visual exhibition there soon.
  • Amazing place, very awsome for comtempory art. Free entrance
  • Went to a Techno conference. Very interesting
