El Prado, Montevideo

4.0
#2 of 12 in Parks in Montevideo
The city's largest public park, El Prado serves as a quiet green space and gathering place away from the bustle of the capital. Spread out over 106 hectares (262 acres), the park plays home to more than 1,000 species of plants, several gardens, and a range of pergolas, monuments, statues, and other landmarks. Go for a stroll through its expansive grounds, following the bank of the Miquelete Creek surrounded by palm trees and other native foliage. Bring a picnic to enjoy a meal in the great outdoors, or simply kick back and watch locals go by. Make El Prado a part of your Montevideo vacation plans using our Montevideo day trip planning app .

  • For me some of the most enjoyable tours in the capital are in the Prado neighborhood. The bad news is that it's a bit far, but worth it. There are the Botanical Garden, the Japanese garden, the State House official, the Church of the Carmelites, the Prado and the Museum Park Blanes. You can take two days just to walk around because it has a lot of attraction. The neighborhood is probably the most charming of the city and has that knack of inner city, but with everything a capital may offer good. Where to stay in Montevideo

Montevideo's central neighborhoods offer plenty of hostels for budget-minded travelers, as well as a good selection of mid-range hotels for visitors looking for a bit more space and privacy. Luxury rooms are harder to come by, especially if you arrive without a reservation. If you want to indulge your every desire, your best bet is the waterfront area, where you can find four- and five-star hotels offering all the modern amenities you need, including complimentary bicycles and car rental services.
