El Prado, Montevideo

(4.3/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
The city's largest public park, El Prado serves as a quiet green space and gathering place away from the bustle of the capital. Spread out over 106 hectares (262 acres), the park plays home to more than 1,000 species of plants, several gardens, and a range of pergolas, monuments, statues, and other landmarks. Go for a stroll through its expansive grounds, following the bank of the Miquelete Creek surrounded by palm trees and other native foliage. Bring a picnic to enjoy a meal in the great outdoors, or simply kick back and watch locals go by. • With its antique touches, between houses, trees, squares and even cobblestone streets, a neighborhood stopped in time, but in a good way, with tranquility and beautiful places to relax and get to know. Recommended to visit until the afternoon, after the night, lighting is very simple.
