  • The old town of Montevideo begins at the door of the Citadel to the Mercado del Puerto. Live by the old mansions, historic buildings, museums, restaurants, in addition to services related to the port of Montevideo. The region is very busy during the day but at night some points are not recommended.

  • Is the oldest neighbourhood of Montevideo, was surrounded by a great wall and you can see what's left of it at the beginning of the Plaza Independence: the gate of the Citadel. We walked by the Centre during the day and it was alright. Recommend pass by, at Teatro Solis Sarandí Pedestrian, the Cathedral, by the Brazilian coffee and at Mercado del Puerto.

  • Is the old town, very well preserved, which has some of the city's history. There are the port of Montevideo port market, today place that gathers more restaurants with the typical foods than "viendas". Very beautiful European-style architecture, where also houses the country's most important theater, the Teatro Solís, just wonderful. Can only be visited as it has guided tours in several languages, and in some timetables admission is free.
