Castillo Pittamiglio, Montevideo

(4.2/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Admire an impressive Modernist landmark, cultural center, and museum at Castillo Pittamiglio, home of architect Humberto Pittamiglio from 1910 until his death in 1966. The building's design was an ongoing process intentionally left unfinished when Pittamiglio died. Consider the symbolism of the curious sculptures curling around the main building, and take a tour of the interior to see oddly shaped rooms, doors that lead to nothing, and interesting color and material choices. The life of the architect remains the source of much mystery, and the museum addresses several rumors that surround the man and his work. • It is interesting to see this castle which is located between modern buildings. A great idea that does not go unnoticed.

  • The castle is located in Rambla (Beira-mar of Montevideo), next the Pocitos Beach, one of the best known of the city and contrasts with the other modern buildings that surround it. It was the residence and was built by a mystical Alchemist, architect and politician named Humberto Pittamiglio. He has many stories, mysteries and symbolism, so I recommend doing the Grand Tour (see timetables on the site varies depending on the day). A pity that, after the death of Pittamiglio, this does not have heirs, the castle was donated to the city, which kept the site abandoned for a long period of time and given the same for private individuals, including to become the seat of a club, being that much of the original were lost. But still worth a visit.

  • For those who likes the history of Alchemy without a doubt an excellent point to visit, is a castillito which has a unique Mystique, is located on the coastal Boulevard in the neighborhood punta carretas. I recommend visiting search to navigate it.

  • You can visit it with your kids and take the tour to know about the architect and the building. Takes around 30 mins. That´s all. Many hidden diagrams and references to Mason´s people.
