  • Cerro Arequita is a really good place to visit. The Ombu forest is fascinating and a unique landscape. The climb to the top of the hill is not difficult, but finding the correct trail can be a bit con...  more »
  • Cerro Arequita is about 20km north of Minas, and public transit does go there (from the omnibus terminal in town). You can visit just for the day, or you can camp in (very) nearby Camping Arequita. Th...  more »
  • The Arequita Hill is on private property, and to visit it, engages a guided tour given by the owner of the complex at the price of 200 pesos. The man in question is a clear example of the saying "good intentions is the road to hell paved" since, in his enthusiasm, he becomes a visit interesting in an absolute heap of nonsense. The first part of the route is interesting: don Gustavo speaks what you know (geography, geology, natural environment) and does so with grace and interest. The problem comes when the man gets into eleven staff shirts, mixed Dan Brown with anthropology and just releasing Pearl as "the Templars" (a religious order dissolved in the middle of the 14th century in Europe) are met in the grotto of yore. Hence, costs down and no brakes: "psicogeneticos" bridges, crazy theories about how the charrúas poor would have built (if built: away, neither more nor less) Cave, questionable interpretations as a minimum of a possible human use of the Grotto in question .. .all without a single scientific proof: there are no archaeological remains, material culture or paintings that can even give a minimum rise to theories of a man with too much free time and a poor understanding of the history and anthropology. No mistake, however: visit worthwhile, but it is a pity that the heritage of Uruguay is disseminated so bad and so little scientific way: If only the Ministry of education and culture take the matter to, at least, avoid that hundreds of people will be Yan convinced that delusions as facts that took place really.

  • Wonderful place! And the cave is something fascinating, well preserved! The parador, perhaps, isn't at the height of its environment, but is a must-see site for the whole family!
