Puerta de la Ciudadela, Colonia del Sacramento
(4.5/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
Walk through the only part of the city walls of Montevideo to remain standing at Puerta de la Ciudadela. Once part of the citadel that stood here until 1829 (when, upon Uruguay's independence, it was torn down to make way for the new city), the gate serves as a marker of the city's history and an entrance to the old town. Its attraction has little to do with the architecture, but rather with the history and culture behind it. Once you pass through, you will be in the old part of town, where you can walk the historical streets, peruse local goods, and try the cuisine. • It is the step to learn about the beginning of the story. Very impressive. Located in the place where begins to take shape is the history of Cologne

  • It was the gateway that was on the old city wall. Here he went to Cologne until they pulled the wall down. There is only this gate, which is well kept inside everything.

  • The city of Cologne has a charm of a colonial town, in which is reflected ancient sites, including with their street with cobblestones.
