  • It's a little different. There were ruins of the home of a former Governor, so a few things left were utilizaas to give rise to the square.

  • And like any small town, Colonia also has its squares. Plaza de Armas is very close to the lighthouse and the Basilica. The square is part of the historical core of the city and was originally a place of Commerce, where products and slaves were sold. Later, it became the site of military maneuvers. Later, they built the Portuguese Governors residence, destroyed by the Spanish in the late 18 century. Today the square is a beautiful, wooded area with cobbled walkways and benches. It is surrounded by other old buildings, among them, the first Church of Uruguay, the Basilica del Santissimo Sacramento.

  • This Assembly is in the center of the historic district. It is a very pretty square, which before had intended be selling all kinds. It is now a square with bars and an excavation with the ruins of the House of the Governor.
