Parque Anchorena, Colonia del Sacramento

Meander through the grounds of a presidential residence at Parque Anchorena. Designed by German landscape gardener and architect Hermann Botrich, the 1,369 hectare (3,383 acre) gardens display more than 200 tree and shrub species, including a pleasant variety of evergreen trees, first planted on the plot in 1908. Once the stomping ground of Argentine aristocrat and landowner Don Aaron de Anchorena, the park was donated to the Uruguayan state, and opened to the public in 1990. You can take a tour through the main house, which now serves as a presidential retreat. • Excellent. It is worth to know him. You can not access the presidential residence, but the place is magnificent.

  • You should visit the Anchorena Park. It is part of the last of the Uruguay history. Is full of deer living freely. A real shame that they are approaching the main hull of the ranch, which is located in a spectacular place. There just do not miss this ride.

  • Don't waste your time visiting. This is not a park effectively public, but a residence of the President of Uruguay. Only allows a tour once a day, always the 14:00. Personally I hate guided tours. Makes us look like cattle.

  • Very important is to be punctual, since if you arrive 5 minutes later let you enter. They are extremely strict with the schedule. I spend a day arrive 5 minutes past the time of the entry and I was told that could not give me the ride pirque were extremely strict with the schedule. Consult timetables and are 30 minutes hantes!

Where to stay in Colonia del Sacramento

In contrast to its quaint historical architecture, Colonia del Sacramento offers a range of multi-story, luxury accommodations. Most of these sit near the tip of the city's peninsula, with swimming pools and good beach access. If you want to stay in the old town itself, choose between a range of hostels, inns, and boutique hotels housed in buildings more in keeping with the city's colonial architecture. Make sure to reserve your accommodations in advance, especially if visiting on a weekend or during the busy summer season.
