Specialty Museum Museum
Explore indigenous archaeology, history, and development at Museo Municipal Dr. Bautista Rebuffo, Colonia's first ever museum. Built in a Portuguese neoclassical architectural style, the museum was modeled on the colonial structures of the 19th century. Indigenous religion, paleontology, stuffed birds, insects, butterflies, natural sciences, and entomology all share space on the museum's premises. Look out for primitive rustic furniture, weaponry, and work tools from the pre-colonisation era. • We didn't go in the museum proper but I saw the whale skeleton when I was driving by and made a special point to stop and get out of the golf cart. I've probably seen a whale skeleton before but there...  more »
  • Here the entrance fee is 50 Uruguay pesos and you have access to seven museums. It is small but a good place to start I order to understand the complicated history of Colonia.  more »
  • I was running the treadmill of all the small museums in Colonia, and just walked in here with no expectations whatsoever. What I found was a beautiful old building inside, filled with just mad things....  more »

  • All those museums in Colonia del Sacramento are quite small but it doesn't mean there are not fun. Enjoy your trip!
  • There are around 5 museums, all very small. Ask for the ticket book to get a discount on entry.
  • Excellent Museum, varied and also well served by the people in charge. With the entry you can visit the other museums.

  • This place sells entry only for all the Museum circuit, which is very economical. It is the most complete Museum of the historical circuit of Colonia del Sacramento. Furniture, decoration, historical documents, paintings, scale models. In my opinion, the most outstanding is the collection of zoology and Paleontology that would deserve an own Museum.

Where to stay in Colonia del Sacramento

In contrast to its quaint historical architecture, Colonia del Sacramento offers a range of multi-story, luxury accommodations. Most of these sit near the tip of the city's peninsula, with swimming pools and good beach access. If you want to stay in the old town itself, choose between a range of hostels, inns, and boutique hotels housed in buildings more in keeping with the city's colonial architecture. Make sure to reserve your accommodations in advance, especially if visiting on a weekend or during the busy summer season.
