Specialty Museum Museum
Find out about life on the high seas at Museo de los Naufragios y Tesoros, a fun and informative museum dedicated to all things nautical. The museum takes the form of a walk-through diorama, with dummies dressed in period uniforms and surrounded by plastic scenery. Don't miss the scale model of a pirate galleon, and an army of life-size pirate models scattered throughout the museum's main hall. If you can tear yourself away from the pirates, you'll also find plenty of space afforded to the South America's history of trade, the workings of colonial economies, and life on the sea during the wars of independence. Where to stay in Colonia del Sacramento

In contrast to its quaint historical architecture, Colonia del Sacramento offers a range of multi-story, luxury accommodations. Most of these sit near the tip of the city's peninsula, with swimming pools and good beach access. If you want to stay in the old town itself, choose between a range of hostels, inns, and boutique hotels housed in buildings more in keeping with the city's colonial architecture. Make sure to reserve your accommodations in advance, especially if visiting on a weekend or during the busy summer season.

  • This was a very low budget attraction, some of the props were made of cardboard, most were toys, and some even the wrappers from chocolate gold coins. Fun for small children, but not many more people.  more »

  • It is a nice museum visit, it's nothing otherworldly. The entry could be cheaper.
