Convento de San Francisco, Colonia del Sacramento
(3.6/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
The remains of a colonial-era convent, Convento de San Francisco features stone walls dating back to the 17th century. Originally dedicated to St. Francis Xavier, Spanish missionary and co-founder of the Society of Jesus, the convent was destroyed by fire in the 18th century. Wander the grounds to get a feel for what the building looked like before its destruction, or ascend the steps of a 19th-century, 34 m (111 ft) lighthouse for a panoramic view of Colonia.
